Explanation
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
For by it men or old gained approval
Hebrews 11:1,2		 An assurance knowing for sure, especially expecting things you have not yet seen.
For what does the scripture say ? " And Abraham believed God and it was reckoned to him as righteousness.
Romans 4:3		 Most people think righteousness is likened to good behavior and morals. The bible says righteousness comes from faith. Believing God.
Behold, as for the proud one, his soul is not right within him; but the righteous will live by faith.
Habakkuk 2:4		 Just an Old testament prophet to help confirm the righteousness through faith idea.
For with the heart man believes resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses resulting in salvation.
Romans 10:10		 The emphasis here is "with the heart". We need to believe from the heart. How is this done ? You have to feel it, rejoice over the thing you are hoping for. There are some ideas to help below.
So faith comes from hearing and hearing by the word of Christ.
Romans 10:17		 "Hearing" is a word to notice. It could indicate reading the Bible and the words of Christ out loud or listening to someone else read it.
And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him
Hebrews 11:6		 You must have faith to please God. Impossible to do it with good deeds or love or any other method. If you don't believe in Him then you can't score points, even from good behavior.
And He said to them, "Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed you shall say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it shall move; and nothing shall be impossible for you.
But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting."
Matthew 17:20,21		 A mustard seed is one of the smallest seeds, yet it grows to a large tree. Is faith a substance opposite to a speck of cyanide poison (One drop will kill you) or does it have to grow into a big thing? Jesus said, you only need a speck of faith to move a mountain, but the people didn't have that much in them, they had less, maybe enough to believe in Jesus and be saved but not enough yet to command the miracles He did.
And Jesus answered, saying to them, "Have faith in God.
Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it shall be granted him.
Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them and they shall be granted you."
Mark 11:22-24		 Jesus said so: to effect the miracles you need faith in God. You need to believe again. But also of great importance is no doubt in heart (Doubt also gets in the heart). Doubt neutralizes faith. Doubt is the opposite of faith, you can't affect the miracles until you get rid of it. There are suggestions for eliminating doubt below.
Jesus replied. "I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done.
And all things you ask in prayer believing, you shall receive"
Matthew 21:21,22		 Once again you need faith, but no doubt to move the mountain, (or big obstacle). Also important here is "asking in prayer"
And the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins they will be forgiven him.
James 5:15		 With faith you can pray to God for a healing, and God will do it. (See the healing page). Once again it is a prayer offered to get the result.
But let him ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.
James 1:6		 Once again, doubt kills faiths' results. See below on ideas how to get rid of doubt.
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.
John 3:16		 Even the whole concept of salvation rests on believing in Jesus as Gods Son and our Lord. There is no other way to be saved except by faith.
The apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith! "
He replied, " If you have faith as a mustard seed you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it will obey you.
Suppose one of you had a servant plowing or looking after the sheep. Would he say to the servant, 'Come along now and sit down to eat.'? 
Would he not rather say, 'Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink.'?
Would he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do?
So you also , when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, 'We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.'"
Luke 17:5-10		 Here is Jesus direct answer when asked how to increase faith. You only need a mustard seeds worth, is not the whole story. Here it talks about being a servant, perhaps doing your regular job and then coming home and doing something personally for God. Next, be humble about it, you are just a humble servant doing your job. Then God will feed your faith.
   
   

Summary of Faith Principals

1)Biblical faith is a sincere and knowing belief in God, and His Son Jesus, in your heart. That He loves you enough to take good care of you and answer your prayers.
2) It doesn't take much faith, only a mustard seed worth, but at the same time you cannot have any doubt.
3) Faith can be built up by hearing the words of Christ.
4) You must have faith to please God.
5) Asking and receiving is done by prayer with faith and it may be helpful to read up on prayer to be effective.

 

Increasing your faith

1) A suggestion is to memorize some, or all of the verses that speak to you about faith. Then you recite them, even out loud sometimes. It is reinforcement for the mind and the subconscious, when you keep speaking it until it is well known to your mind. 

2) To memorize is also knowing it by heart. Some of the verses speak of "in your heart". Knowing it by heart is a way of getting it in your heart.

3) Try asking yourself the question. How would I feel if God loved me and did for me the thing that I asked for ? Wouldn't you be ecstatic with joy, if he healed your sick or favored you with another one or your desires ? Get up and jump for joy because He did it. Feel it in your heart. Thank God for doing it, again and again. God is granting your wish; what do your feel like ?

4) Prayers asking God to increase your faith and remove your doubt are effective. God wants that for you too. Sometimes the result is going through a time of testing, were you need to exercise more faith. Use the opportunity to practice standing strong. Recite the verses to enforce it. Feel the desired outcome, and thank God for the victory. Then remember for next time, to make you even stronger.

 

Getting Rid of Doubt

1) Doubt is the opposite of faith. It is a neutralizer of faith.

2) It says a man who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. Imagine yourself as a big rock, or a lighthouse built on a rock, the waves beat the rocks constantly, but you stand strong and cannot be moved. Visualize your strength.

3) It is the wind that blows the waves around. You stand firm and break the wind.

4) Sometimes when I have tough or unresolved situations to face, I wake up with an uncomfortable feeling in my belly. I was trying to figure out; What is doubt? How does it feel? Try this word picture. Doubt stinks, it is waste, you need to flush it, and when you are full of it you don't feel good until you let it out. I've learned to get to the toilet and it helps me feel better fast. Sometimes it is just gas in the belly. This feeling is the closest feeling to doubt that I can think of. That brings us back to idea #3, you break wind.

5) Fasting is a way to get rid of doubt, going along with #4 above. No food in the belly will soon turn into no waste (or doubt). Jesus fasted for 40 days before he started his miracle ministry. Ester fasted for three days with the jews in town before she did what she feared. Matthew 17:21 recommends fasting for moving tough mountains. It seems that a fast is a faster way to get a prayer answered.
