The bible talks about sin and forgiveness. Sin brings about God's wrath, and it is not a very pleasant situation. Everyone has sin in them, you have to get forgiven often to keep clean before God. You have to forgive others as well. Here is what the bible says about it and there is a summary below.

Bible verses

Explanation

For if you forgive men their transgressions, your heavenly father will also forgive you.
But if you do not forgive men, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.

Matt. 6:14,15
For God to forgive you, you must forgive everyone else for whatever they have done to you. Jesus says so.
A mans discretion makes him slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook a transgression.
Prov. 19:11
Solomon thinks it is a good idea too.
But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities,;
The chastening for our well being fell upon Him, and by his scourging we are healed.
Isa. 53:5
Messiah took the punishment for sins. Anyone who accepts it can be forgiven and can get into the Kingdom with Him. But you can't drag along someone else's sins with you, I think that is one reason you have to forgive others as well.
And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone; so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your transgressions.
Mark 11:25
Even though Jesus died for your sins, He still said so himself, you have to forgive others as well.
When God saw their deeds, that they had turned from their wicked way, then God relented concerning the calamity which He had declared He would bring upon them. And He did not do it.
Jonah 3:10
Here is and indication that God has calamity in store for sins, but also wants to forgive. He did so in this verse to some wicked people who changed their ways and humbled themselves before Him.
I acknowledged my sin to Thee, and my iniquity I did not hide; I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the Lord"; and thou did forgive the guilt of my sin.
Psalm 32:5
Here it suggests a confession, and admission of guilt prior to God forgiving you.
And He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.
1 Peter 2:24
Peter knew it too. Jesus died to forgive you and have you change to a a righteous life of faith. Also as in the Isaiah 53:5 reference above, there is healing that comes from wounds.
Again when a wicked man turns away from his wickedness which he has committed and practices justice and righteousness, he will save his life.
Ezekiel 18:27
Ezekiel the prophet says you have to turn away from sin and start being good. Just like Jonah and Peter above.

Summary

There is punishment for sin, sickness, death and other bad things are declared as judgments for sin in the bible. At the same time God wants people to stop sinning and live a righteous life. He made a way for forgiveness through Jesus Christ's death. He was a sacrifice for sin. You have to believe it and also start living for God to stay forgiven. You also have to forgive everyone else. This, I have seen is hard for some believers. I also see those same believers having a hard time in many other ways. You can't bring sin into heaven with you, not yours, and not someone else's, so you have to let it go.
